Monarch squares up to no-frills competition
On the back of an announcement of three new routes from Manchester, Monarch Scheduled says it is trying to offer the best of both worlds – low prices, full inlfight service and agency commission.
The carrier, which brands itself a ‘low cost airline’, is launching flights from Manchester to Barcelona, Gibraltar and Tenerife. Fares will start at GBP51 return including taxes, food with wine, complimentary bar drinks, daily newspapers, hot towels, in-flight TV and reserved seating.
The carrier will fly daily to Barcelona and Tenerife and three times a week to Gibraltar. Existing Manchester services include flights to Alicante, Faro, Malaga, and Palma de Mallorca.
The carrier pays agent commission of 7%.
Commercial director, Jonathan Crick said; “We believe that many consumers want a genuine low-cost alternative to the ‘no-frills’ airlines. Monarch Scheduled has retained a full in-flight service whilst keeping our prices low.”
