MSC confirms new ship order and option
MSC Cruises has confirmed an order for a new ship to be called MSC Poesia, Italian for Poem.
The 2,500-passenger vessel, to be built at the French yard Alstom Marine, is due for delivery in 2008.
The 90,000-ton vessel will technically mirror MSC Musica, which is launched in June, and MSC Orchestra.
The line has taken an option to build a fourth vessel as a sister ship for MSC Poesia, MSC Orchestra and MSC Musica.
He order means the MSC fleet will total 12 ships by 2009.
UK director Peter Pate said: “We are excited and delighted with the news as it confirms our role as a major player in the global cruise industry.
“My message to trade is reinforced, there has never been a better time to link up with MSC Cruises. We are offering you a wider choice than ever of our unique Italian product. The MSC cake is getting bigger and bigger. Make sure you get your slice.’
MSC said sales for 2006 summer season are continuing to increase with a 15% rise year on year.
The new flagship MSC Musica is christened on June 29 by Sophia Loren. The inaugural season starting on July 1 from Venice is 75% sold.
