MSC Cruises’ parent company has responded to media speculation it has been in discussions to acquire easyJet.
The company was named as one of several suitors for the airline in the Italian media.
The news saw easyJet shares surge with its market value rising to around £3.6 billion.
MSC has ‘denied any involvement in this matter’ it said and easyJet hasn’t responded to the speculation.
The report in Corriere della Sera suggest MSC was one of several companies considering a bid.
MSC Group, which has stakes in port infrastructure and rail transport, has previously attempted an acquisition in an airline.
It joined with Lufthansa to bid on ITA Airways but later withdrew.
