Multi-media hotel booking piloted by Amadeus
Amadeus is piloting a new multi-media hotel-booking platform with a small number of business travel agents before introducing the technology across its customer base in September.
According to UK managing director Stephane Durand the GDS has moved even further away from the traditional green screen with Amadeus Hotel Plus.
The technology includes images of all the properties as well as geo-coding for each to enable consultants and travellers to plot the hotels on a map and find similar properties in the same area if one is full.
Amadeus Hotel Plus is primarily aimed at the corporate market but the GDS is conducting some research in the leisure sector and plans tie-ups with leisure bedbanks to expand the offering.
Durand also said Amadeus planned to release its UK rail booking engine for business travellers in the first quarter of 2008. The technology, which will include seat and coach maps, can be integrated into Amadeus self-booking tools or act as a standalone product.
The rail engine’s development will come after Amadeus introduces its Eurostar booking engine later this summer.
