Multi-million pound beach project unveiled in Ibiza
A hotel group is planning a €300 million development on Playa d’en Bossa, the longest stretch of beach in Ibiza, in a bid to turn the island into a year-round destination.
The six-year project by Grupo Empresas Matutes, owners of Palladium Hotel Group, aims to meet demand for upmarket holidays in Ibiza.
The upmarket Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel opened in 2011 in Playa d’en Bossa and the Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa was converted into a five-star hotel last summer.
Grupo Empresas Matutes said the latest project would create about 1,900 jobs during the construction phase and 3,000 once completed.
Abel Matutes Juan, president of Grupo Empresas Matutes, said: "Now is the time to regenerate the popular Ibiza tourist areas to appeal to those looking for upmarket accommodation in Ibiza.
"This project will benefit the island financially, multiplying the original investment many times over and will generate employment for small and medium sized businesses in Ibiza."
This summer will see the opening of The Ushuaïa Tower, an extension of the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, a pioneering music venue / hotel concept.
The Ushuaïa Tower, which was formerly the Fiesta Hotel Playa d’en Bossa, will have 181 luxury suites and rooms.
Other plans include the construction of an 18-hole public golf course, with a driving range and golf school, an elevated path for pedestrians and cyclists, linking San Jordi with Playa d’en Bossa, and 56,400 m² of green areas including children’s playgrounds and pedestrian pathways.
A large sports zone of over 12,300 m² will be built on the other side of the Playa d’en Bossa Avenue, complementing the relocation of existing facilities currently available at the Fiesta Hotel Don Toni and Fiesta Club Don Toni.
There will also be a large shopping area, open year-round, a business area, extensive parking zones, green areas, and sporting facilities with leisure options for families.
