New low cost startup Bonza has got the green light to begin flying.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority approved an air operator’s certificate.

Bonza will release tickets for sale soon.

CEO Tim Jordan called it ‘a historic moment for Australian aviation.’

Bonza will operate from its Sunshine Coast base.

It will initially fly to 17 airports, including Cairns, Melbourne and Newcastle.

“Bonza will boost competition, offering more choice to the travelling public,” said federal transport minister, Catherine King.
