The Bahamas has announced a new head of tourism.
Joy Ann Jibrilu has been appointed as the country’s new director of tourism, taking over from David Johnson, who becomes the new CEO of the Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas.
Jibrilu is a trained attorney and had worked as director at the Bahamas Investment Authority.
Tourism officials said she played "an instrumental role in the invigoration of tourism brand and product" and was involved in launching tourism projects such as Resorts World Bimini and Club Med in San Salvador.
The Bahamian government said the appointment is part of an "organizational restructuring" to become more responsive to increased global demands and changing trends.
Jibrilu has previously served on the boards of the Securities Commission, the Financial Services Board and the Domestic Investment Board of the Bahamas.
