New chairman for Discover Ferries
Kevin George, managing director of Red Funnel Isle of Wight Ferries, has been appointed chairman of Discover Ferries, the industry organisation to promote travel by ferry.
He replaces Stephen Tuckwell, communications director at Brittany Ferries, who will step down at the end of the year after holding the post for several years.
George joined Red Funnel as managing director in January 2014 and was the managing director of Monarch Airlines .
Before that, he held a range of senior management positions at British Airways and was instrumental in numerous product and service developments, notably the customer experience at Heathrow Terminal 5.
"Over the past two years of working in the passenger shipping industry, I have seen first-hand that the convenience, pleasure, affordability and quality of ferry travel are still not appreciated by enough British consumers," said George.
"It is important that the major operators work together to keep promoting ferry travel as an enjoyable and great value alternative to flying, and I am excited to be spearheading this work over the coming years."
Discover Ferries represents all the UK’s major ferry lines.
One of George’s first tasks as chairman will be to lead the upcoming eighth annual National Ferry Fortnight, which will take place in March 2016.
