New Delhi Uber driver delivers newborn baby

Wednesday, 16 December 20153 min read
A woman has named her newborn son Uber after her little bundle of joy arrived unexpectedly in the back seat of an Uber cab.
The new mother, known only as Babli, gave birth en route to hospital after being picked up by Uber driver Shahnawaz Khan in New Delhi.
She called an Uber car after a long delay waiting for an ambulance.
Shahnawaz also helped deliver the baby after pulling over when both realised they would not reach the hospital in time.
"I pulled out the towels from the seats and poured some drinking water into a bowl. The child was born within minutes and I was really happy to see that he was responding," Shahnawaz said.
Shahnawaz was invited by the grateful mother to name the baby at a ceremony at the weekend.
It is unclear whether baby ‘Uber’ will be entitled to free rides for life, as per normal policy on airlines after mid-flight births.
