New York becoming “fear city?”
In the aftermath of the London bombings, New York City is getting nervous.
One New York Daily News columnist calls it “fear city.”
“In a dramatic sign of the city’s edginess since the London transit bombings, cops evacuated buildings, shut midtown streets and forced about 60 terrified tourists to march off the double-decker bus — with their hands up,” reported the newspaper.
One of the latest incidents involved Mayor Bloomberg apologizing to a group of British tourists who were handcuffed and forced to kneel on a Broadway sidewalk during a bomb scare.
The mayor urged New Yorkers to report suspicious behavior but added they should use common sense. The British tourists were Sikhs.
Earlier last week, Penn Station was evacuated after another bomb scare. No bomb was found.
