NHS booster jab glitch could disrupt winter holidays

Wednesday, 05 Nov, 2021 0

Holidaymakers may be prevented from trips abroad this winter because the NHS app doesn’t recognise the third booster vaccination

The NHS app currently shows data for the first and second injections, but a third booster jab is not being recorded.

It comes as concerns a booster will be required for travel to most countries eventully, with Israel and Austria the first to require them.

More countries will likely put limits on the validity of vaccinations which could disrupt travel plans in the coming months.

Austria has a 360-day limit on how long it recognises a vaccine shot but Israel only has an 180-day limit.

Meanwhile the UK’s booster vaccine drive is progressing quickly enough to keep ‘Plan B’ restrictions at bay this winter.

Experts say the rollout is sufficient to keep winter cases under control.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid has urged all eligible people to not delay and get their third jab as soon as possible.

The NHS is now administering about 1.9 million booster jabs each week.

Professor David Livermore, of the University of East Anglia said the rollout will cover the majority of the most vulnerable adults by early December based on the current pace of injections.

"Any suggestion that we should move to Plan B owing to the ‘slow’ rollout should be robustly resisted," he said

It is expected 23 million people will have had their booster shot by Christmas.
