Northern holiday hotspot hit by blaze

Tuesday, 28 July 20093 min read

Hundreds of holidaymakers in Blackpool were evacuated after a hotel was destroyed in a fire on Monday night.

As around 100 firefighters battled to control the blaze at the Grand Hotel in Station Road in the holiday hotspot, tourists from 60 holiday flats, a nightclub and surrounding guesthouses were led to safety. The hotel, which was described as “like something from the Blitz”, will now be demolished.

Noone was injured in the incident and holidaymakers who had to leave their lodgings were given accommodation at the local sports centre.
