On the Beach appoints new technology chief
On the Beach has appointed Stefan Nordin as chief technology officer, replacing Jonathan Smith.
Smith, who joined the company 2009, will leave at the end of the year to ‘explore new challenges and non-executive opportunities’.
A statement from On the Beach said Smith has been fundamental in the digital evolution of the business, having overseen the re-engineering of its technology platform and grown a highly-skilled development team to more than 100.
Nordin (pictured here) will join on October 1 and will work alongside Smith for a transition period.
Most recently Nordin was CTO of gaming group Betsson, where he was instrumental in the integration of several companies as part of Betsson’s merger and acquisition activities.
He will join On the Beach just before it opens a new digital headquarters in Manchester’s city centre in November.
The majority of the workforce will relocate to the new headquarters, in the Aeroworks Building, although the group’s Contact Centre will remain at Park Square, which will also undergo a major redesign and refit.
The new larger office will allow the business to expand its digital teams from 200 to more than 350 employees over the next three to five years.
This growth will focus on development, design, marketing, and product and business analysis, it said.
Simon Cooper, founder and CEO of On the Beach, said: "Jonathan has played an essential role in the growth and success of On the Beach, creating a best in class technology platform, as well as being a key part of the leadership team, helping to drive the business through two rounds of private equity funding and into IPO. It has been a pleasure to work with him and I wish him every success for the future.
"We are delighted to announce Stefan as the business’ new chief technology officer. Stefan is a highly regarded CTO and has a fantastic track record of delivering technology strategy around growth and innovation at scale. During his time at Betsson, Stefan was integral to the business’ success, which has seen it become one of the world’s largest gaming brands, and I am looking forward to Stefan playing a key role in the future success of On the Beach."
