Operators on alert as France burns
City break operators are monitoring developments in Paris and several other French cities as rioting continued across the country.
Concern was also mounting as trouble appeared to spread across Europe with vehicles torched in Brussels and Berlin.
So far, operators claim booking patterns for French cities have not altered although incident teams are closely watching the situation.
Cresta product manager Ian Lomas said all customers due to travel to affected destinations are being sent letters advising them of the situation.
“The rioting in Paris appears to be confined to the suburbs and sales are holding up fairly well,” he said. “The worry is in towns like Toulouse and Lille which are smaller and where customers are potentially nearer the trouble. We may have some issues going forward.
“But we have had no reports of anyone caught up in incidents.”
He said letters to customers are advising them not to venture into the suburbs.
A Thomson cities spokeswoman said booking patterns remained unaffected and that normal booking conditions apply.
“The Foreign Office advice is to be careful. We are keeping customers informed,” she said.
