Plans for orbiting space hotel unveiled

Monday, 9 April 20183 min read

A new hotel is being planned which will offer great views but not much atmosphere.

Houston company Orion Span has unveiled the Aurora Station which will offer up to four guests an out of this world experience floating 200 miles above the earth.

The space hotel would offer ‘the exhilaration of zero gravity’ for $9.5 million each for a 12-day stay.

Orion Span is now accepting online advance reservations with deposits of $80,000.

The tiny ‘pod hotel’ is staffed by two crew members and guests will undergo three months of acclimatization before.

Guests will be involved in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit.

"We want to get people into space because it’s the final frontier for our civilization," said Orion Span’s founder and chief executive officer, Frank Bunger.

Orion Span still hasn’t sourced a launch contractor to get it off the ground and is still mulling funding sources, so it’s still unclear whether it will become a reality. Watch this space.
