Qantas unveils big frequent flyer revamp

Aussie flag carrier Qantas has unveiled a major revamp of frequent flyer program.

It is investing $25 million in what it claims is the biggest overhaul in the program’s 32-year history, offering easier access to economy reward flights.

With immediate effect, members will get international economy reward seats using up to 10% less in points.

However, premium bookings will cost 15% more points, and upgrades will be 9% more, from September 18.

Qantas said carrier charges will be halved, which says will save customers an average $200 for an international flight.

Most of the changes have come about from customer feedback.

"There’s a lot about the Qantas Frequent Flyer program that our members tell us they love, but there are also areas of the program that have increasingly come under pressure as a result of rapid expansion. What we’re announcing today is all about investing more into the heart of our program," said Qantas loyalty chief Olivia Wirth.
