The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau (SFCVB) booked a record-breaking 1,035 convention groups and meetings for the fiscal year.

That represented more than 2.1 million in hotel room nights and spending of $1.7 billion, according to the SFCVB.

Said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO:

“San Francisco has the distinction of being a very ‘balanced’ destination for both convention business as well as leisure travelers.”

The number of visitors to the areas was 15.7 million, or up 4.1% from 2004.

Other achievements included Web site bookings up 197%.

Tourism is San Francisco’s largest revenue-generating industry.
