Record year in sight for Bali arrivals
Indonesia remains confident that targeted arrivals in 2012 of eight million international tourists to the country – an expected increase of between 4% to 6.6% over 2011 – will be achieved.
Minister for Tourism Mari Pangestu said that based on the 6.27 million arrivals recorded from January to October, the global crises had minimal impact on Indonesia’s inbound tourism, which looks on course to reach its target of 7.7 million arrivals for the year.
The tourism ministry, reflecting on tough economic times in Europe, said it would reinforce its marketing efforts in Australia, China, India, Russia, the ASEAN countries, Taiwan, South Korea and the Middle East.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa told a tourism conference in Jakarta that tourism had been a resilient sector during the global economic crisis in 2008/2009.
“The economic crisis resulted in the contraction of world tourism by 30 percent, but, at that time, international arrivals to Indonesia were up by 0.3 per cent.
“That is why the national government is giving so much attention to this sector,†he explained.
Bali received 2.32 million visitors in the first 10 months of the year, an increase of 9.9% year on year, and is set to receive a record number of 2.7 million visitors by the end of year.
