Riding the Rails in the UK

It’s easy to fall in love with train travel with RailEurope. It’s all about the ease of booking before you leave home.

Rail travel in Europe has always been my favorite, full of great memories and itineraries.  It is one of the most relaxing ways to travel from city to city and in our case, also from airports to city centre.  After arriving in Manchester, we walked across the street, hopped on a bus and then boarded the train for our 3-1/2 hour ride into central London.  It went by so quickly.  I think all things you enjoy go by so fast.  The train was clean and efficient and we were served complimentary refreshments in the First Class car.

Rail Europe offers travelers from the U.S. a very large array of options and booking convenience.  In fact, we received our rail tickets and London tube/bus passes before we left home.  So we avoided the hassle of standing in line and trying to figure out where to purchase transportation.

The only thing we had to exchange from a voucher to a card (like a credit card) was the Visit London Pass.  This amazing Pass gets you in everywhere including museums, castles, on the Hop on/Hop Off bus and many other venues, all for one price.  Again, we were able to walk right in and in many cases, there was a special line for Pass holders.  When you’re visiting, the last thing you want is to ‘queue’ in line waiting to enter.

With these Rail Europe train vouchers, we were also able to board both the Gatwick and the Heathrow Express.  We had the experience of both because of a last minute trip to Italy, flying out of Gatwick and back into Heathrow.  To catch the bmi flight back the U.S. we had to fly out of Heathrow to Manchester.  If there was more time, we simply would’ve taken the train back up to Manchester.

Train travel is the way to go.  Pack a good book, your iPod and train vouchers before you leave home and away you go.  Enjoy the ride!
