Ryanair continues to target ancillary revenue
Ryanair has extended a deal with accommodation provider NeedaHotel as it continues to build ancillary revenue.
The renewed contract will see the company supply Ryanair with hotel content for a minimum of five years.
The move comes as increasing numbers of travel firms begin to offer ‘full-travel’ websites.
Deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: “This underpins our objective of increasing this important part of our ancillary revenues at rates well in excess of the growth in passenger numbers.”
Meanwhile, the carrier has made an 11th hour appeal to Cornwall council chiefs to withdraw a £5 customer surcharge which has led to the carrier axing half its flight from Newquay.
From today, the low cost airline will cut 12 services to Stansted which Cawley said will lose Cornwall 100,000 per year.
He said far from raising revenue, it will damage the local economy to the tune of £10 million.
“Instead of reducing visitor numbers to the region with ridiculous taxes, Cornwall County Council should start thinking of ways to stimulate tourism like other regions in the UK by reducing taxes and welcoming visitors.
“Taxing tourists is not the way to promote visitors to come to Cornwall, particularly during the difficult winter months.”
The council has said the fee is crucial to the viability and future success of the airport.
