Ryanair has made additional cuts to its Italy flight schedules in response to the Italian Government’s lockdown.
It comes as Italy’s coronavirus quarantine measures imposed are being widened to the whole of the country, with all public gatherings banned and people only allowed to travel for work or family emergencies.
From midnight Tuesday until April 8, Ryanair will suspend all Italian domestic flights to and from Bergamo, Malpensa, Parma, and Treviso.
From midnight on Thursday (March 12) until midnight on April 8, international flights to and from Bergamo, Malpensa, Venice, Parma, Rimini and Treviso will only operate on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
Any routes with more than one daily frequency (for example Stansted to Malpensa) will be restricted to one flight a day during each of these four days.
The airline said while its Italy flights have suffered large numbers of ‘no shows’ over the past week, there are many thousands of non-Italian visitors currently in the Lombardy and other affected regions who are scheduled to return home.
Ryanair said this is why it must continue to run a restricted four day week schedule to repatriate these non-Italian citizens.
It said it continues to comply fully with WHO and national Government guidance and travel bans.
"The situation is changing on a daily basis, and all passengers on flights affected by travel bans or cancellations are receiving emails and are being offered flight transfers, full refunds or travel credits," it said.
It said all affected passengers have received email notices. If passengers have not received an email, they can expect their flights to operate as originally scheduled.
