Ryanair to launch new routes
No-frills airline Ryanair has unveiled further expansion plans which it hopes will bring an extra 500,000 passengers flooding aboard its planes.
The carrier is launching six new routes between Dublin and Europe – Biarritz, Carcassonne, Rome, Eindhoven, Frankfurt and Doncaster Sheffield. The Frankfurt route will be launched in May, and the others in April.
Announcing the new routes in Dublin yesterday, Ryanair’s deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: “These new routes are great news for Irish consumers, Irish tourism, and Irish jobs. By launching low fare flights to Germany, Italy and the South of France, Ryanair will make Europe affordable for Irish consumers at fares that are less than half the price of Aer Lingus’ so called lowest prices.
“We also expect that more than half of the traffic on these new routes will be European visitors. Ryanair expects to carry over 500,000 passengers per annum on these six routes. This will create over 500 new jobs at Dublin Airport.”
He added that he hoped the Irish government would end “three years of dithering” and deliver a second terminal at Dublin, claiming the move would bring as many as five million extra passengers.
