Mountaintop republic gets EDEN destination award
A delegation composed of representatives of the Secretariat of State for Tourism and Consorzio San Marino 2000 travelled to Rome recently to receive the prestigious "EDEN Destination of Excellence 2013," awarded for accessible tourism.
The award for the Republic of San Marino were given to the Secretary of Tourism Hon Theodore Lonfernini and the Director of the Consortium San Marino 2000 Mahena Abbots , who created the "San Marino for All" project.
The Italian evaluation Committee considered 50 applications received including the project of the Consortium San Marino 2000 and even though San Marino is not a member of the EU The National Evaluation Committee decided to select the destination because of the exceptional importance of the measures taken by the project.
The project had the economic and professional support of local private companies such as the Ente Cassa di Faetano , Photonics , Studio AG , Elledue Language Assistance and the State Secretariat for Tourism and the Tourist Office .
There was also a valuable technical contribution by the Paralympic Committee of San Marino and the association Enable – mind, spirit, whose slogan "nothing about us without us " , was the leitmotif of the drafting of the first International Convention on the Rights of Disabled people approved by the UN General Assembly on 13 December 2006.
The topic of accessible tourism in recent years has become a key theme in the world of tourism recently and a special conference is being held in San Marino together with the UNWTO next year.
