Search goes on for missing Sharm tourists
Hope is fading that any of the UK tourists still missing in Sharm El Sheikh will be found alive as tour operators continued to provide support for relatives in the shattered resort.
One Briton has been confirmed dead with a further ten missing following the three blasts which tore through Sharm at the weekend.
The Foreign Office named the tourist who died as 29-year-old Keri Davies. He was believed to have been travelling with Libra Holidays with his American girlfriend.
The majority of the ten missing are MyTravel customers, who were staying at the Ghazala Gardens Hotel in the town’s Namma Bay area.
A MyTravel spokeswoman said it had a large team of staff, including senior management, in the resort to look after customers and relatives of those missing. Counsellors are also on hand, she said.
Commercial director Brendan Fox , one of the delegation in resort, reported that despite the unfolding tragedy, bars and restaurants appeared to be returning to normal.
Hoteliers meanwhile are reportedly already preparing to cut rates in a bid to maintain business.
Federation of Tour Operators director general Andy Cooper reiterated comments made following the bombs in Turkey by claiming terrorism is no longer the disincentive it may once have been.
“There will be a short term effect but it will bounce back fairly quickly,” said Cooper.
