Qantas’s budget subsidiary, Jetstar, was forced to ground four A320 aircraft overnight after staff discovered that they had missed inspections.
Jetstar confirmed to Fairfax newspapers that that it took four A320 aircraft “temporarily offline” for maintenance, resulting in the cancellation of two services.
Jetstar said the aircraft were serviced overnight and have since returned to operation.
“”There was no risk to the safety of the aircraft, ” Jetstar said.
Jetstar has advised the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of the temporary grounding.
The Age said it understood that the computer system tracking the maintenance of aircraft failed to alert Jetstar workers that work on the four A320s needed to be attended to.
Jetstar’s problems follow the grounding of Tiger Airways until at least August 1 because of safety concerns.
