SFO baggage handlers caught stealing weed from checked bags
Two United Airlines baggage handlers face drugs charges after stealing marijuana from passengers’ checked bags.
The Justice Department said they were part of a years-long operation to steal the weed and sell it.
Ramp agents Joel Lamont Dunn and Adrian Webb were making up to $10,000 a week selling the marijuana taken from checked luggage at San Francisco International Airport.
They were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Prosecutors said it had been going on since at least 2020.
The two men used two other work colleagues in the scheme who were paid $2,000 each shift.
Two men were caught in possession of about 30 pounds of marijuana at the airport.
No trial date had been set.
Cannabis is legal in California but not at the federal level when transported by air.
Passengers caught with it at an airport rarely get charged.
Still, air travelers with weed in their checked bags are unlikely to report a theft.
