A small child was found hidden in hand baggage taken on a flight from Istanbul to Paris.
French authorities confirmed a woman was arrested when the flight landed at Charles de Gaulle late on Monday night.
According to several media reports the woman, who holds French residency, was in the middle of a process to adopt a Haitian child.
The child was spotted coming out of the bag onboard Air France Flight 1891 by other passengers who then alerted flight crew.
Air France said the child was traveling without a ticket and appeared to be between two and four years old.
Air France said it ‘requested the presence of the French authorities on the flight’s arrival and will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation being conducted by the competent authorities," it said in a statement.
