Thailand is advancing plans to legalise casino gaming.
Seeing it as a billion-dollar draw for added tourism spending and foreign investment, Thailand’s Council of State published draft rules on Thailand casino licenses for 30 years.
It is now seeking public feedback.
Casino licenses in the form of integrated resorts would be extendable for another 10 years.
They would only be granted for IR developments alongside hotels, convention centres and other non-gaming leisure facilities.
The industry is worth about $263 billion in revenue a year.
Reportedly, Galaxy Entertainment Group and MGM have been looking at the feasibility of a Thailand gaming resort, while Las Vegas Sands Corp recently expressed interest.
Legalised gambling has for years been a contentious issue among Thai people but Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has been a vocal advocate.
