Thomas Cook/MyTravel integration will be complete by December

The ‘physical integration’ of Thomas Cook and MyTravel will be complete by December.

Speaking to analysts today, chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa said: “Last weekend we migrated all the tour operating systems of both organisations on to one, which means that all capacity is now on one system, along with the yield management system, all our control systems and contracting systems.

“This means agents and customers alike can access all our stock through one system, rather than having to skip around systems.

“From a management of capacity and margin point of view, this makes life a lot easier and we can get down now to analysing the product from a proper point of view.”

He said by December all 150 shops that are due to be closed will have been closed, reducing the number of shops overall to around 800.

At the same time, the new management team will be in place “right the way down” at the group’s three offices – Peterborough, Bradford, and Manchester.

Thomas Cook Group, which released a trading statement today, has already cut MyTravel capacity by 15% for winter 07/08 and by 23% for summer 08.

“We have basically exited some of the unprofitable MyTravel products, mainly in the short-haul arena,” said Fontenla-Novoa.

“For summer 08, Thomas Cook capacity will stay about the same or we might go up by 4-5%.”
