Thomson has most successful Christmas Day ever
Thomson has reported that its Christmas Day website sales were up 90% on the same day last year, making it the most successful ever.
The peak of traffic online was between 5-6pm on Christmas Day and the most popular destinations were Tenerife, Majorca and Sharm El Sheikh – indicating Brits were looking for an escape from the cold, wet weather.
Boxing Day was even more popular – with bookings 60% than last year.
"We started our traditional January sale a week earlier this year on December 22, as we were already seeing strong demand for early summer bookings this autumn," said Jeremy Ellis, director at Thomson.
"However we didn’t expect to see such a jump in bookings against last year’s results over Christmas Day and Boxing Day themselves. I think the weather must have had an impact on bookings, as people wanted to escape from the misery of floods and transport disruptions and instead think about heading off for a bit of sunshine."
