Officials announced that three British nationals were among the 16 people confirmed dead in the Lisbon funicular tram crash.
It included an 82-year-old man and a couple age 44 and 36, named as Kayleigh Smith and Will Nelson.
At least 20 more people were injured.
The funicular derailed and crashed into a building last week.
A spokesperson for Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “His thoughts are with their families and those affected by this terrible incident. We stand united with Portugal during this difficult time.”
The Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the families of three British nationals who have died following an incident in Lisbon, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Other deceased victims included nationals of Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, Canada, Ukraine, the US and France.
“This is one of the biggest human tragedies of our recent history,” said Luis Montenegro, Portugal’s Prime Minister.
