Top ten hospitality issues in 2006
Changing labor conditions and escalating operational costs are among the top ten issues facing the hospitality industry in 2006, according to a series of roundtable discussions at the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC).
The top ten issues came up at the group’s Annual Conference in San Diego, California.
The labor issue includes the shrinking of the work force, while the escalating cost issue includes higher energy and health insurance costs.
Other top ten concerns:
- The impact of rising energy costs on consumer travel and hotel demand.
- Higher renovation and construction costs.
- The havoc from recent natural disasters.
- A growing public uncertainty about safety and security.
- Increasing customer expectations.
- The rapid rise of condo hotels.
- The constantly accelerating change and merging of technologies.
- The increasing consolidation of hotel brands and companies.
“As brands consolidate and proliferate in their market reach, owners are finding it more difficult to select a brand that is now already represented in their marketplace or one that is not influenced by territorial encroachment issues,” said the ISHC.
