Tourists stabbed near Cairo mosque
Two tourists are reported to have been stabbed in the Egyptian city of Cairo because they were being overly affectionate near a mosque.
According to the BBC News website, the pair were attacked as they kissed in the Khan al-Khalili bazaar, a popular tourist draw that sells souvenirs and local crafts.
The couple, who are Hungarian, sustained minor injuries and needed treatment at a local hospital.
The assailant, who was reportedly “enraged at the public show of intimacy”, has since been described by police as mentally unstable and depressed.
While the incident is clearly an isolated one, it will do nothing to help Egypt’s tourism industry, which has been hit in recent years by several attacks on visitors at tourist sites.
