Transportation Department proposes refunds for delayed airline baggage
The U.S. Transportation Department confirmed it plans new rules to require airlines to refund fees for delayed bags. It will also mandate refunds for services not delivered like onboard Wi-Fi disruption.
Its proposal is open for public comment for 60 days. A ‘significantly delayed checked bag’ is one not delivered to a passenger within 12 hours or within 25 hours for international flights.
The DOT estimates consumers could see refunds of more than $10 million annually in refunded bag fees.
