Travel industry shares had a largely disappointing day yesterday as London’s equity markets registered small losses. After a positive morning session, the main indices went into reverse later in the day, following the trend across the Atlantic on Wall Street.

The FTSE 100 index edged backwards 0.2 per cent, losing 8.4 points and closing at 4198.0, while the FTSE 250 lost 0.1 per cent of its value, dropping 5.6 points to close at 5569.6.

Airline shares enjoyed mixed fortunes; Ryanair suffered a 22p loss to close at 430p, British Airways dropped a penny to close at 187.75, while EasyJet gained 2.5p for a 244p finish.

On the online side, lastminute.com gained 2.5p to end the day at 271p and ebookers added a penny to close at 575p. First Choice Holidays dropped a penny to close at 113p, while MyTravel was static at 25p.
