New York-based social mapping service Citymaps has been acquired by TripAdvisor.
Citymaps is a mapping and trip planning tool allowing users to customize and share journeys while highlighting points of interest such as museums, shops, restaurants and attractions.
No terms of the deal have been disclosed but Citymaps had backing of $12 million in venture funding.
TripAdvisor said it would continue to operate as a stand-alone service.
Earlier this year Citymaps said it had more than one million users.
"The Citymaps team understands how people experience their day through a maps lens. We are excited to welcome the team to the TripAdvisor family of brands to help TripAdvisor ensure its mapping features best address the needs of its users who are increasingly accessing the site on mobile devices," said Adam Medros, SVP of global product at TripAdvisor, in a statement.
