TSA backtracks on pot on planes

Thursday, 6 April 20173 min read

The Transportation Security Administration has admitted an error and reiterated that pot on planes is forbidden.
Recent updates to the TSA’s website erroneously listed medical marijuana as an item allowed in carry-on or checked baggage.
That error came to light after a pro cannabis activist tweeted the apparent change in policy on the agency’s ‘What Can I Bring?’ page, causing the TSA to backtrack and issue a statement.
"There was an error in the database of a new search tool that is now corrected. While we have no regulations on possessing/transporting marijuana, possession is a crime under Federal law," the statement said.
Although not a priority for TSA searches, all narcotics, whether for medical purposes or otherwise, ‘have to be reported to law enforcement when discovered.’
"Whether or not marijuana is considered legal under local law is not relevant to TSA screening because TSA is governed by Federal law," it further states on the TSA website.
