The head of security at the Transportation Security Administration has been ousted.
Following a hearing about the agency’s current plight and its management, Kelly Hoggan has been removed, the House Oversight Committee said.
Hoggan had held the position since 2013 and was criticized for receiving $90,000 in bonuses despite long lines at airport security checkpoints and high profile security lapses.
The House Oversight Committee grilled TSA officials on May 12 including why Hoggan was paid the $90,000 bonus.
The TSA’s deputy assistant administrator Darby LaJoye will take over on an interim basis, according to a memo by TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger.
LaJoye previously served as a senior security official at New York JFK and Los Angeles airports.
In the memo Neffenger also said TSA has formed a National Incident Command Center to track expected passenger traffic and shift resources ahead of time to meet increased volume.
