Tunisia extends state of emergency

Tuesday, 23 February 20163 min read

Tunisia has extended its state of emergency by a further month until March 22.

The state of emergency was introduced in November after 12 people were killed in a suicide attack on a military bus in Tunis.

In June, 36 people including 30 British holidaymakers – customers of Thomson and First Choice – were slaughtered in the popular resort of Sousse.

In March, more than 20 people including 17 cruise ship passengers were shot dead by terrorists at the city’s Bardo Museum.

Thomson and Thomas Cook have cancelled their Tunisia programmes until at least October 31 in light of continued security concerns.

The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth continues to advise against all but essential travel to Tunisia.
