Turkish authorities investigate hotel sickness outbreak
Tourism and health authorities in Turkey have launched an investigation into a sickness outbreak at a five-star resort in Side.
Thomas Cook has suspended the all-inclusive Sentido Perissia Hotel from its programme after a spate of illness among guests.
In a statement issued today, the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Culture, together with the Turkish Ministry of Health, said it is now investigating what appears to be an outbreak of sickness at the property.
"It has not yet been determined how many persons have been affected and the source of this issue is not confirmed," it said.
"The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism takes such incidents very seriously and is taking the necessary action to have the matter and the hotel thoroughly investigated such that immediate steps are taken to ensure that this remains an isolated case in a country that prides itself in being the world’s sixth most popular tourism destination with 31.78 million people travelling to Turkey in 2012."
Thomas Cook, which sends clients to the hotel, has begun its own investigation and has sent independent inspectors to Turkey.
It has suspended the property from its programme until at least September 2.
