Two survivors in Karachi plane crash

Thursday, 23 May, 2020 0

A Pakistan International Airlines plane carrying around 91 passengers and eight crew crashed in Karachi.

Flight PK8303 was flying from Lahore to Jinnah International Airport, one of Pakistan’s busiest airports.

Reports initially said all those on board have been killed but it later transpired there were two survivors.

It is believed the Airbus A320 had made several failed attempts to land before crashing near Model Colony, a residential neighbourhood of Karachi about two miles north-east of the airport.

PIA chairman Air Marshal Arshad Malik made a statement as he boarded a flight to Karachi to the crash site.

The black box recorder has been retrieved and a preliminnary accident report was published.

It raised questions over pilot actions as warnings over speed and altitude were apparently ignored according to air traffic control audio recordings.

A previous attempt to land was aborted as the engines apparently scraped the runway surface.

After a go-around, the plane was unable to reach the minimum altitude for a second attempt likely due to engine damage.

It then crashed into a  residential area close to the airport
