UK travel websites IAC ‘acquisition targets’
IAC/InterActive Corp boss Barry Diller, the US executive behind Expedia, is reportedly targeting online travel acquisitions in the UK.
Price comparison site Cheapflights was named in a report in the Guardian as a potential purchase.
Diller was quoted as saying: “We are looking at several things in the UK. We are definitely looking in the UK travel space. There’s lots of little entrepreneurship that intrigues us.”
While declining to comment on specific targets, Diller said: “We’re always talking to somebody.”
He denied past interest in either eBookers, which was sold to Cendant, and lastminute.com, which was acquired by Travelocity parent Sabre Holdings.
IAC/InterActiveCorp spun off its travel assets, including Expedia, Hotels.com and TripAdvisor, in a separate stock market listing last year.
