Union calls for travel ban exemption for flight crew

Wednesday, 1 February 20173 min read
A flight crew union group has called on the Administration to grant an exemption to the temporary travel ban for airline crew members.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA wrote to DHS secretary John Kelly to ease the rules for flight crews, some of which are citizens from the seven majority-Muslim nations blacklisted.
"Some AFA members hold passports from the affected countries and despite having legal status to enter the US working for one of our airlines, the executive order apparently includes these crewmembers," said international president Sara Nelson.
"It directly impacts their very livelihood as a flight attendant and jeopardizes their ability to enter the United States while on duty."
The ban affects nationals of Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya and Yemen, even those holding dual passports.
Non US native pilots and flight attendants already require special visas to enter the country as part of their job and have been through security clearance procedures.
Gulf carrier Emirates was forced to tweak crew rosters when the travel ban was announced last week.
