United adds 25,000 more flights in August
United Airlines is adding an extra 25,000 flights from next month.
It marks a big resumption, and is flying about three times more routes in August than it did last month.
Still, it is only about 40% of normal capacity compared with August 2019.
It is still a bold move, especially with surging Covid-19 cases across the country seemingly now slowing the travel recovery.
United is scheduling about 600 more domestic flights daily In August than currently.
United says it is seeing an ‘ebb and flow’ in travel demand in different parts of the country due to the rise of Covid-19 cases in some states.
"We will be flexible in moving capacity where we see demand shift," said Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of domestic network planning.
Some states have slowed reopening plans because of the spike.
United is also upping the number of international flights in August with a resumption of services from Chicago to Cancun, Mexico City and Quebec City, Canada among others.
