United Airlines mulls investment in ExpressJet

Monday, 11 December 20173 min read

In a move that could shake up its regional network strategy, United Airlines is reportedly mulling a stake purchase is carrier ExpressJet.

United Continental Holdings Inc is seeking a stake in ExpressJet, which is a subsidiary of SkyWest, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter.

ExpressJet already flies for United on regional feeder services.

Neither party has confirmed or denied that talks are taking place.

Expanding its domestic network is a key goal for United, and a tie-up will give it access to a larger pool of pilots.

ExpressJet recently agreed to end a flying contract with Delta but still flies services on behalf of American Airlines.

ExpressJet was previously a subsidiary of Continental Airlines, which merged with United back in 2010.
