United Airlines plans to start a nonstop service from its hub in Guam to Shanghai later this year.
The carrier has applied for government approval and will fly the route beginning October 28.
The Tuesday and Saturday service will use Boeing 737-700/800 aircraft configured with 14 business class and 144 economy seats.
Flight time will be just under five hours northbound and four hours 20 minutes for the return leg.
United also flies to Shanghai nonstop from Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco and has been serving the mainland China market since 1986.
"As Guam’s hometown airline, United has been working hard over the past seven years to develop the China market," said Sam Shinohara, United’s managing director, business development Asia/Pacific.
He said Guam-Shanghai flights will become available for sale at a later date.
