United tourism industry backs bushfire victims
MELBOURNE – In response to Victoria’s devastating bushfires, Victoria’s top tourism attractions will be donating their general admissions takings on the Labour Day Holiday, March 9, to the Red Cross’ Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.
With the generous level of support of the industry thus far, it is anticipated that many hundreds of thousands of dollars will be raised, and families will be encouraged to come together and celebrate the public holiday.
Participating tourism attractions include:
Werribee Park Mansion
National Rhododendron Gardens
Wilsons Promontory National Park (subject to bushfire activity)
Sovereign Hill
Eureka SkyDeck 88
Champions Racing Museum
Colonial Tramcar Restaurant
Healesville Sanctuary
Cooks Cottage
SurfWorld, Torquay
Peninsula Hotsprings, Rye
Montsalvat, Eltham
Yuulong Lavendar Estate
Koorie Heritage Trust
Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre
Flagstaff Hill Warrnambool
Federation Square
Central Deborah Gold Mine (Bendigo Trust)
City Museum at Old Treasury Melbourne
Melbourne Aquarium
Phillip Island Nature
“This is the tourism industry’s chance to show its generosity towards the bushfire recovery effort,†said Tourism Alliance Victoria CEO Anthony McIntosh.
“This is about families enjoying the best of what Victoria has to offer, and, of course, there’s no better day to go out and see Victoria than on a public holiday.”
Dozens of tourist destinations were severely affected by the Black Saturday fires.
“The fires have hit the tourism industry hard. Many tourism businesses have suffered closure, cancellations or had to offer refunds. So, this is a way we can contribute and stand together,” McIntosh said.
This initiative is supported by Tourism Alliance Victoria, VECCI, Tourism Victoria, Prime Television, 3AW, the Herald Sun, Magic 1278 and Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions.
