US Airways to sell same-day standby coupons
US Airways has changed its policy on same-day standby tickets for US passengers.
Under the new rules, customers on non-refundable fares will be able to pay $100 to stand by for same day flights beginning on October 10. To do so they will need to use new standby coupons.
With the implementation of the fee, US Airways becomes the first to charge for standby and also the first to do so by using coupons. US Airways said this would help customers avoid additional airport queues and offer more flexibility.
The coupons, which are $100 each, can be bought in unlimited quantities and are transferable to other individuals. But they are non-refundable, lose their value after a year and cannot be replaced if they are lost.
The coupons can be purchased in advance at any US Airways airport ticket counter or any of its 16 city ticket offices. By the end of the year customers will be able to purchase them from US Airways reservations and via the airline’s website.
