US suspends flights operated by China carriers
The US government continued its tit-for-tat action by suspending 26 Chinese airline flights.
It relates to a long running dispute over China’s policy of punishing airlines if Covid-positive passengers arrives flights.
If that happens, China suspends airlines from flying the route for a temporary period.
It has affected dozens of airlines flying to China over the past two years
The US Department of Transportation claims China violated an air transport agreement and unfairly penalises.
However, the system has been in place throughout the pandemic and no other countries have formally complained.
The regulators canceled seven Air China flights from New York and 19 others flights from Los Angeles which are operated by Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern and Xiamen Airlines.
The DOT says it equates to the same number of United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta flights that had to be suspended due to China’s Covid policy.
The policy was recently eased by Beijing.
