An American tourist has died and his two-year old son is in a critical condition after being found unresponsive at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool.
They were discovered in the 18th-floor unsupervised indoor pool at the Marriott Residence Inn in Montreal by other guests, who alerted staff members.
Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said the 36-year old man may have suffered a cardiac arrest while in the pool with his son.
"The first hypothesis we are looking at is that the man maybe suffered a heart attack. Was the boy in his arms, or was he near the pool and he went to check on his father? He’s two, he didn’t know how to swim so he went under, too," Brabant said.
